GAH METHOD
PELVIC FLOOR REHABILITATION
WHAT IS THE HYPO-PRESSURE EXERCISE?
The hypo-pressure gymnastics is considered a rehabilitation method and was created by Dr. Marcel Caufriez in the early 90s after careful study of theneurophysiological nature and numerous clinical trials. Thanks to a series of postural ordered, rhythmic and progressive exercises, motor responses of the respiratory muscles and the postural ones as well as the autonomic nervous system are activated.
Through a series of movements like self-stretching, the forward projection of the axis of gravity, the drawing with the removal of the joints of the shoulders, the opening of the rib cage and the ribs and the momentary respiratory apnea, you get a reduction in the pressure on the chest, a lengthening with stretching of the diaphragm with consequent reduction of abdominal pressure and activation of connective tissues and muscles of the pelvic floor.
WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE?
Hypo-pressure gymnastics serves to give greater firmness to the abdominal muscles. It also helps to prevent and minimize any problems related to urinary incontinence, pelvic statics caused by visceral prolapse or posture making or in some cases better the performance in sports.
GAH or hypo-pressure gymnastics allows you to improve the tone of the abdomen, thus normalizing any muscle tension. It also improves endurance.
This exercise also helps getting more toned pelvic floor (up 58%), decreasing by 8% the circumference of the waist.
WHO IS IT INTENDED FOR?
Many are the applications of GAH and the hypo-pressure techniques of the women in childbirth who need to get the most out of the pelvic floor as well of those who suffer from stress incontinence, genital prolapse and vulvar beanza.
WHEN CAN I PERFORM THE TREATMENT?
The hypo-pressure gymnastics can be practiced from the fourth to the eighth month of puerperium, as in the first period it is necessary to give priority to the care of the newborn, to lactation and rest. As regards the gynecological patients, the treatment can begin according to the symptoms and the desire to prevention.
WHERE CAN I PERFORM THE TREATMENT?
The treatment can be performed at the OB-GYN surgery of the State Hospital devoted to the rehabilitation of the pelvic floor.
TREATMENT DURATION
Each session lasts one hour.
The duration of treatment varies depending on the ability of the patient to store the postures and coordinate breathing following the directions of the operator. In some cases, it may take between 2 and 3 months. Once the patient learns the technique, he/she will continue the treatment in his/her own home twenty minutes a day for about 6 months.
SESSIONS FREQUENCY
During the first phase of treatment, when the patient remembers the exercises, the frequency of sessions is weekly. Once the patient learns the technique, the patient will have to perform the exercises every day individually, for about 20 minutes a day for 6 months.
ARE THERE ANY CONTROINDICATIONS TO THE HYPO-PRESSURE EXERCISE?
Yes, if the patient suffers from hypertension or is pregnant. In all other cases, there are no particular contraindications.
WHO ARE THE OPERATORS PERFORMING THE TREATMENT?
The courses are held by the obstetric staff with specific training in possession of a Master Expert's degree in GAH. Released from the Academia Interdisciplinaria en Ciencias de la Motricidad of Palma de Mallorca.
